An integral part of the Bay of Plenty triathlon calendar for 20 years, the Tinman Triathalon is a traditional high profile season-opener for triathletes in the upper North Island.

Regarded as New Zealand's premier Olympic distance triathlon event, this is a fantastic sport to watch.

The event offers two distances for both individuals and teams -

• Standard Distance (1.5km swim, 40km flat bike, 10km run) 
• Sprint distance (750m swim, 20km flat bike, 5.5km run)

Registration is Saturday from 2-4pm at Smiths Sports or Sunday at race start between 6.30-7am (late fee applies).

Head to Main Beach, Mount Maunganui to watch pro beach volleyball players compete in their last Grand Slam competition before the pro tour events begin.

The Mauao Beach Volleyball Club is adminstered by Volleyball Bay of Plenty and runs beach volleyball events on Mount Maunganui main beach over the summer, these tournaments cater for the elite level in New Zealand (AA or Challenger Grade) and the up-and-comers or beginners (A or Satellite Grade).
