Meet our Chef - Alan Jane
Beginning his career in London, Executive Chef Alan Jane spent 5 years working in the Britania Hotel, Intercontinental Hotel and 5-star Chesterfield Hotel. During this time, Alan combined his work with studies at Westminster College, attaining his City and Guilds Chef Apprentice qualifications. After leaving London, Alan spent time in Lucerne, Switzerland, and went on to work in some of England’s most prestigious 5-star properties in the Lake District region, some of which have achieved 3 chef’s hats.
After receiving a sponsorship from the Mawson House Restaurant - a very popular restaurant frequented by Adelaide’s politicians and socialites, Alan made his culinary mark in Australia working with John Cadman Cruising as the Executive Chef for 2 years. Alan also spent time with Bayswater Brassiere and Jules Balmain, two of the top restaurants and cafés in Sydney. After his culinary stint in the southern part of the country, Alan moved to warmer climates and headed north; to the stunning Gold Coast. It was here that Alan began as the youngest Sous Chef at Jupiters Casino and remained there for 5 years, working not only with award-winning Nicholson’s 5-star restaurant but also as part of the opening team at Hotel Conrad in Brisbane; as Head Chef.
After 5 very successful years working with Jupiters at the Gold Coast and Hotel Conrad in Brisbane, Alan worked as Executive Chef at the Couran Cover Island Resort & Spa for 2 years. While at Couran Cove Island Resort & Spa, Alan catered for a number of high-volume delegates; gaining several awards for the cuisine created and served before moving to the stylish Avica Wedding Resort & Spa for 6 years.
With all this under Alan’s belt, it is no wonder he has been welcomed with open arms by Quay West Suites Brisbane as the new Executive Chef at the elegant McMahons Restaurant. Alan has certainly made his mark at the Brisbane restaurant and continues to create and serve inspiring, innovative food whilst running a profitable and successful department.
