Field House Restaurant & Bar

 the story...

field house is named after the field brothers who emigrated to australia in 1885 from england. the two brothers found their niche in the fresh produce market & developed a booming business here in what was the heart of sydney’s trade centre. by 1931 the business headquarters was established in this building.

during the great depression the field brothers opened their doors to the governments outdoor relief & stores department. this department provided free meals to the needy citizens of the time. This humanitarian aid reached a peak in 1930 when over 10,000 people were assisted each week & 3,705 tons of food was distributed over the year.

the tradition continues...

these days we aim at quality rather than quantity - 10,000 people a week is enough to give any chef grey hair.

our executive chef mark murdoch grew up in central otago in new zealand in one of the world’s best up and coming wine regions. along with a glass of world class pinot, mark also enjoys cooking with exciting local produce. mark loves to explore each day’s fresh catch with the fish markets located just around the corner.
